Project:

Dark Slope Halloween 2024

Dark Slope Halloween is an annual haunted house that takes place in Park Slope, Brooklyn in a 10-unit residential brownstone. For the third year in a row, our building opens its doors and transforms the stoop, hallways, and building exterior into a free, fun, and safe otherworldly experience for trick-or-treaters looking for a sp00ky experience on Halloween. This project is a labor of love that has organically developed into two approaches to civic engagement:

  1. Tenant Organizing - What started as a small stoop activation organized by a few tenants has since evolved into a full scale, building-wide production in which every tenant actively participates. Dark Slope Halloween led to the creation of the building group chat and deeper inter-tenant relationships within the building, which go beyond Oct 31 ever year. Our tenants now look out for each other, provide transparency on individual landlord interactions, and generally, have a good time together.
  2. Community Engagement - Every year, we open our building up to anyone who visits our block on Oct 31. By providing a free, fun and safe experience for families in the neighborhood, we’ve created an outlet to meet our neighbors (beyond our own building) and establish more shared experiences and connections with our greater NYC community.

Dark Slope Halloween 2024 was a huge success, seeing over 350+ attendees of all ages. See photos for behind the scenes production and Halloween night!
